“Cayendo is the title of this show and book. It takes its name after the Frank Ocean song. The song is so sad and beautiful, but there is something very cinematic about it. I can picture scenes when I listen to it. This idea came to me sometime last summer, and I wanted to paint and write a love story. Time went by and the paintings and the writing took on a new life. It isn’t much writing, but it’s very poignant. It’s very personal and it makes me feel naked. Still, I think artists have to be this vulnerable when it’s what they feel. My book Cayendo is about the joy and pain of love. About the memories that have gone and that memories will never be. About falling in love. I wrote every passage or poem while looking at the painting it’s resonating. It was a very intense and uncomfortable process at times, but what came out was directly from my heart.” - Luis Miguel Anaya

Luis Miguel Anaya is an artist focused on oil painting. He started painting 5 years ago after reading a book about Van Gogh. Coming from a hard working Mexican family, art was never a topic of discussion. For the longest time it was football(soccer) and school. Van Gogh opened up a new world for him. Luis likes to dwell in the depths of human emotion and translate it onto canvas. He believes it’s the responsibility of an artist to share what humans feel. Luis found purpose through painting and wants to use that to help others.
